“You’ll be the same person five years from now except for two things; the people you meet and the books you read.” ~ Charlie “Tremendous” Jones, 1927 – 2008
Charles E. “Tremendous” Jones, was born on October 23, 1927 and died on October 16th, 2008. He was my friend. The quote above is a classic and so very, very true! An Associated Press poll revealed that 1 in 4 adults read no books last year. 25% of the adults out there are reading zero books. How sad. Please don’t be one of them.
Why read? Because reading is a fundamental skill builder. Books open your mind, broaden your perspective, and strengthens your character as nothing else can. Reading enables the mind to think over subjects of interest, which enable a person in making informed decisions, its food for the soul, because it nourishes the human intellect in probing things deeper, analyzing things, and provide guidance to people, to things they have not yet been exposed to in life.
“The man [or woman] who does not read good books has no advantage over the man [or woman] who can’t read.” ~ Mark Twain
I always carry a couple of books in my car and if I someone runs late for an appointment or if I’m having lunch alone, I catch up on reading. I have a library of good non-fiction books like you would not believe. I have never lost my passion to read. Reading good books helps us to stay in-touch with want we are interested in.
If you think you don’t have time to read, you are mistaken. When you read only 15 minutes every day, you can read 12 to 15 books a year.
