How good a networker are you? Are you in a place where others in your network are liking you and trusting you enough to pass along business leads to you are are they just someone you see at a meeting every week?
Do your commitments seem to far outpace your time and energy for learning? It’s important to focus your efforts on only the key initiatives that will help your business grow or become more efficient. In other words you build upon the basics that you already know. I’m not talking about learning to prioritize, I’m talking about actually making learning about business networking a priority.
If you are not willing to learn more about networking, no one can stop you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you. If you think you know all there is to know I’m glad I’m not in your boat.
My friend, Zig Ziglar once said, “If you are failing to plan, you are planning to fail.” Prioritizing learning means to arrange or deal with in order of importance. Learning is something that you must put on your “to do” list or it won’t get done. It requires a strategy.
Work on developing the networking skills you already have. Talk to the people in you networking who are successful. Ask lots of questions. Dig deep for their secrets. If they are really successful at networking they will share what they know with you as long as they know you are serious about making some changes.
To be an effective networker, you have to learn how to communicate with other people. Don’t sell… connect. Networking is about building relationships with people. It’s something we must do every day.
Volunteer to speak to your group about the Top 10 things that have helped you in your networking efforts. Let them know at the beginning of your talk that everyone in the group will be expected to share at least one tip that has helped them at the end of your talk. Then… listen carefully and take notes! If you don’t learn a few things new then you are probably dead and they haven’t buried you yet!
