There is only one real reason for being late to any networking event. It’s a “Low Priority” – you’re just not into it.
Let’s say the Chamber of Commerce was giving away a free laptop for everyone who arrived before 5:30 p.m. Would you make sure you arrived on time?
If getting a free laptop was a “priority” for you, yes, you would be on time! No last minute calls, you would leave real early and you would get the exact directions.
I almost dropped this discussion from my workshops because the energy in the room would tank. The topic was uncomfortable. Feedback later told me it really made an impression.
Habitually late behavior had never been addresses quite like this before and it was an eye-opener for them. It relates not only to networking but to personal business ethics in general.
No more lame excuses for being late at networking events!
