Networking not working for you?
Never GIVE up! Give everything but up!
There are books and people who would love to teach you networking techniques that can assure you that you can make networking one of the most successful business strategies that can push your career to fast forward!
The more you do to help others, those things become the seeds that will eventually blossom into a giving tree for you. One that will eventually become a resource of everything you need to have a great career. AND… you have to give everything. Just never give up!
It takes commitment and lots of effort to build a successful business network. I have been networking long before they called it networking. There are people in my network that it has taken years to cultivate. Some I have known for 30 to 35 years. They know that they can count on me to be of service whenever called upon and do what I say I am going to do. I am “count-on-able!” I believe and know the same about them.
Networking is no fast-track. It is sometimes slow, deliberate and always worth the extra effort. Always remember this: You only get out of networking what you put into it. That is an absolute! Networking is the deep end of the pool. You better learn quickly how to swim. Just never give up!
The most successful networkers I know have learned that networking doesn’t have to be a struggle. The concept is simple… you give and you receive, in that order. Be true to yourself and know this: When you want to learn how to do something the right way, you hang around others that have already made the mistakes you are making and who can teach you their techniques. Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.
I am often amazed at networkers who seem to be protecting their turf by not openly sharing everything they know about networking with their friends and anyone who will listen. They suffer in silence. Most are unwilling to admit that their networking efforts are not doing so well. Ask and you will receive. Successful networkers share. They are “givers” in all ways. You share referrals, why not share techniques and be an encourager to others that may need assistance. The teacher teaches most what the teacher needs to learn. Never forget that.
Your willingness to give and share is an example to others who may be holding back. Reach out. Encourage the leaders of your networking groups to include some training in each of their weekly meetings. Volunteer to give your top 3 tips at your next meeting. Start the ball rolling. Encourage others to do the same. It’s fun to start a tradition. This is a great way to warm up your network. Help yourself by helping others. Just never give up!
Take your eye off the potential for money when networking and put your eye on the target. In the middle of the target it says, “Give First… Receive Later!” That’s where you aim. Profit in dollars is temporary, but profit in a network of people who like and trust you as a person of integrity is forever.
“Every one person who trusts you will spread the word of that trust to at least a few of their clients and customers, and word of your character will spread like wildfire. The value of the trust others have in you is far beyond anything that can be measured.” ~ Amy Rees Anderson
You are the only one who can make networking work better for you… only you! The more successful you are, the more you will also learn to Love business networking. It’s easier to succeed while doing something you Love.
Give everything… but UP!
